On Monday March 31, 2025 we recognize Indigenous Languages Day and celebrate the rich linguistic heritage of the First Peoples of this land. In the Rocky Mountain School District, we acknowledge and honor the Indigenous languages of Secwepemctsín, Ktunaxa, and Michif.
Language carries culture, knowledge, and history, and revitalizing and preserving these languages is essential for future generations. Let’s take this opportunity to listen, learn, and support the continued use of Indigenous languages in our schools and communities.
Did you know? The United Nations has declared 2019-2028 as the International Decade of Indigenous Languages, recognizing the urgent need to support Indigenous language preservation and revitalization worldwide.
We encourage our students, families, and community members to explore and appreciate the beauty of these languages. Every word spoken keeps a language alive.
